Aubrey Truex
Aubrey grew up in Orlando, Florida. He graduated from Auburn University in Alabama and then spent two years living in Nairobi, Kenya and Johannesburg, South Africa.
When Aubrey lived in Africa, he was overwhelmed by a desire to know more about that country. The people, customs and landscape were foreign to him. So, when he returned to the states, he was interested to see if he could find a way to help people to feel more welcomed in the US.
Aubrey became friends with Bob and Ann Sullivan, who were staff members with ISI. They had a thriving outreach to students that were attending the University of Central Florida (UCF). He met a Kenyan who was attending school at that time. They enjoyed spending time with each other and talking about memories of Africa.
Later, Aubrey got married, and after a few kids and years later, he felt led to become involved with international student ministry (ISM) again. He found a group of people who were working to help get local churches involved with friendships to international students.
Aubrey and his family moved to live in Thailand for 2½ years, and then joined ISI as a campus staff worker at University of Central Florida in Orlando. He is passionate about befriending international students and helping them to understand more about American culture. He also hopes to encourage and train more people to become involved with this vital task.
