God used her allergy problems to lead her out of Taiwan. He put a burden for international students on her heart, but she wanted to work in nursing first–for financial security. While trying to find a nursing job in the Seattle area in January 2001, Ping-Yi was unexpectedly diagnosed with osteo-arthritis. With another special condition (low WBC), it became difficult for her to work in the nursing field. She knew she could serve Him in other ways, though, if not in nursing.

She came to Portland in 2001 to study at Multnomah Biblical Seminary and finished her studies at MBS with Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies in May 2005. She has been serving international students as a campus staff at ISI since 2003.
